This one goes out to all of you urbanites. Represent. So we've all been there, you are in the back of the cab. The driver up front is perpetually on his cell phone speaking Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, Cantonese, or some other language you can't decipher. You sit there in the back wondering who the hell are all of these cab drivers talking to. They can't all have 3 concubines and a wife, right? Well, I'm reading this
book by a young, Jewish lesbian who decided to chuck the advertising world and drive a yellow cab in NYC at age 29 and I have an answer. They are talking to other cab drivers. Many of them conference call with 5 or 6 other drivers of similar ethnicity and discuss things like the best routes, spots to find fares, how to get to obscure locations, and not surprisingly, you the passenger. So there you go. That was worth the price right there. I dig the book quite a bit though, so if you are in the market for reading material and you are fascinated by cabs or New York City, there you go.
